OUR FOUNDER
Mabuhay!

SinagTala means Shining Stars. We promote the shining stars and encourage the rising stars of Filipinos in classical, choral and ethnic music through performance opportunities, whether in concert halls, town plazas, school gymnasiums, living rooms or recordings.

2006 began with a concert at the Cultural Center of the Philippines featuring Virginia based pianist, tenor Carlos Ibay, who last November 30 performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and Toronto based soprano Lilac Caña who will be performing the role of Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. They are 2 of the many shining stars in the SinagTala roster who through their work and accomplishments give pride to the Philippines.

During my opening remarks for the concert last January, I expressed my hope that audiences continue attending concerts, not just those of SinagTala. I informed the audience that whereas SinagTala productions in Metro Manila would diminish in frequency, we hoped to bring our concerts and our artists to the provinces if not the world. In the months that followed, we brought Lilac Caña and pianist Lourdes de Leon Gregorio for a performance in De la Salle University, Dasmariñas, Cavite; the Manila Strings Ensemble to Angeles City; the Kasilag Guitar Quartet to the University of the Philippines in Iloilo City as well as to the Beautiful Valley Auditorium in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental and to the Luce Auditorium in Silliman University in Dumaguete. We returned to the Luce with soprano Alexis Edralin, tenor Rogelio Peñaverde and pianist Julie Mendoza in a Kundiman concert to bring back into the public consciousness these Filipino art songs. From Silliman, we proceeded to the towns of La Libertad and Vallehermoso, where we invited the La Libertad Rondalla to join the performance. We also went on a trip to Singapore to support SinagTala soprano Rachelle Gerodias along with baritone Andrew Fernando and tenor Lemuel de la Cruz as these 3 performed leading roles in the Singapore Lyric Opera’s production of The Marriage of Figaro. We did bring not just our musicians and their music. In addition, we also brought audiences with us and hope to do more of these tours in 2007.

We ended 2006 at the Stable for a different kind of tour – one where we reached out to help our special, young friends while they touched us and helped us prepare for Christmas through their gift of Filipino music and dance.

For the last 6 years, our Christmas gift to family, friends and SinagTala supporters has been a concert called Come to the Stable. The concert becomes our collective vehicle to raise awareness and funds for our beneficiaries, which this year, were our performers from Ang Arko ng Pilipinas, a home for physically and mentally challenged children in Cainta; The Learning Tree’s Angklung & Philippine Indigenous Music Instruments Ensembles, for their new instruments and a group of 5 Higaonon youth from the mountains of Misamis, for their return to school. Donations surpassed our targets but we will continue to welcome contributions for these organizations, which do so much to give these children a brighter tomorrow.

Enjoy this site and all it has to offer – the sound bytes, pictures, articles, feedback and the listing of musical events happening around Metro Manila and on occasions where SinagTala artists are involved, in other parts of the Philippines and the world. Keep the lines of communication open and do let us know how we can better serve you!
